help with damaged xls file

hi

i have a damaged xls file which generates this message when I open it
(see below).

I tried one of those Excel recovery programs but the recovered file
doesn't have the data but the words "lost strings" in it's place. do
you of any service that specializes in repairing excel files?
something tells me the software out there isn't going to fix this
problem.

I would try downloading OpenOffice and see if that will open your file.
That application saved me from having to rewrite a bunch of macros in a file
of mine that got severely corrupted. Though the file was unusable once I
opened it in the OpenOffice application, I was still able to extract the
macros that I needed. This saved me a ton of work. I've since learned to
export my macros for safe keeping in the case that should happen again.
