all my stuff back off..Disk managment says Disk 1 (the 160) is Dynamic
and Unreadable. If i chose to revert back to basic disk it wants me to
format. I NEED EVERYTHING OFF OF THIS HDD. how can i get everything off

There may a chance that the data are undamaged.

It sounds as you did not disconnect the 160 GB disk while installing
Windows 2000, and that you did not install latest service pack AND set
the registry 48-bit LBA value.

The safest procedure can be this:

You switch off the power while the PC is idle.

From boot to a DOS floppy, the partition table entry for the 160 GB
disk is changed to a hidden partition covering the entire disk from
the second sector. That will prevent Windows 2000 from doing further
damage. If you need help for that, you will need to connect to the
internet from another PC.

Install the service pack and make the registry setting, and then
examine the 160 GB using a recovery program such as Findpart or
another recovery program which can copy files to another disk.

There are different ways of attacking a problem like yours. In my
suggestion, the first thing was to power off the system, and if
further help was needed, seek it using another PC. Since I did not
have the information if the PC was powered off, and if another PC was
available, I could not continue.

Others may have other solutions, like just attempting to copy files
using a recovery program.

i do have another PC available to use if needed. I do not see how i can
copy files if i can not get into the drive.
