When I turn on my computer, Windows xp loads like normal except there is
nothing on my desktop. No startmenu, icons, etc. My wallpaper comes up and
I'm able to run task manager to get online but nothing else is there. I've
read through my manual and there is nothing for this problem and couldn't
find anything in the troubleshooting webpage. Any help is appreciated!
Thanks.

I get the same thing on occasion. It seems to be related to SpySweeper
never finishing whatever it does on power-up. Are you running any kind
of spyware protection program?

Hello,

One of the services may be hanging the system.

While in the empty desktop, activate task manager, File > Run > Services.Msc

Sort by status and look for one that says "Starting". That's the one that is
causing the system to 'hang' there.

In my last 2 cases, its always the "Windows Image Acquisition" service - I
set it to Disabled and the desktop shows up much faster now.

Try running the edit on Kelly's site:

Line 195: Restore Desktop Icons and Taskbar

See the top of the page for info on running the edit.
