HELP! WDM Rage Theater Audio and Video drivers fail to start

Andrew

I'm having a problem that a lot of other people seem to have had, but don't
see a solution out there. I just got an 8500 AIW Pro and my ATI WDM Rage
Theater Audio and Video drivers fail to start. I'm using the latest
drivers. I've got the latest DirectX, I've updated my motherboard drivers.
I've tried a million ways of reinstalling/verify the latest ATI drivers are
installed, etc. and continue to have the problem. Does anyone have any
insight into this problem?

Go to Device manager and open "sound, video, and game controllers".
You should have these 3 (along with many other) things- Crossbar, Tuner and
Video capture items specific for your TV card. These have to be specific
for your OS . I've found the best way to go about this kind of
problem is to remove the Crossbar, Tuner and Video capture devices mentioned
earlier, reboot, and direct your "new hardware found" wizard to the proper
location for the drivers. The tuner and video drivers are pretty much
self-explanatory, the crossbar controls the sound.

Yeah, I tried that (several times). It always comes back still failing.
I've tried various older versions of the drivers and techniques for making
sure the drivers are cleaned out before reinstalling. Nothing seems to
work.

DFI WT70EC, WinXP SP1. Tried WinME too, with it I get somehting along the
lines of 'unable to initialize tv tuner' or something like that - presumably
a different manifestation of the same problem.

I have what I think is the same problem. In my Device Manager the ATI TV
Audio Crossbar had an exclamaion mark and it said the device couldn't start.
The result was my TV tuner and capture wouldn't initialize. I am using XP
Pro SP1 as well and I tried reformatting without success. I even tried it in
a different computer. Talked to tech support and they said if it doesn't
work in either PC then the card is defective and I'm sending it back. You
may want to try, if you can, the card in another PC and see if the problem
is reproducible on the other PC as well. If so then you will need to return
the card for warranty or repair if your warranty has expired.

Hope this helps

Yeah, during my troubleshooting efforts I tried mine in another computer as
well, but it actually worked fine so I don't think it's the card. Actually,
I've had nothing but troube with this machine. I used to have a AIW 7500 in
it, and could never get it to work in any configuration except Win98 with
almost the OLDEST driver on the ATI site. Whether because of the old
driver, or because of some problem with the machine, it's also pretty buggy.
I'm currently convinced it must be my motherboard and have order a new one.
Hopefully that will end my problems once and for all.

is this a VIA chipped board?
