Hi

I just bought a new laptop with the Vista Business Edition and stupidly
followed MS's marketing and uprgaded to Ultimate, but now the sound doest
work (audio out or mike in). The device manager shows that the SigmaTel audio
driver is working properly and the taskbar shows the loudspeaker icon as
normal.

Please help,
PMAL

Right click on speaker icon in Taskbar Notification Area, click Playback Devices, right click in an empty area of Sound dialogue, select both Show Disabled Devices AND Show Disconnected Devices, select each one and use the Configure, Default, and Properties buttons on the Sound dialogue to configure your devices -- making sure to go to EVERY tab and set up the devices. Use the Sounds tab to test your settings.

Unfortunately that didnt do it. I'm getting sound through the headphones ok,
but just not through the pc's own speakers. I'm sure they are working fine
and that its a software conflict related to the difference in the way Vista
Ultimate sees the SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC driver versus how
Vista Business saw it, as they worked fine until just after the "upgrade".
Any ideas? Thanks

Is there a newer driver from the SigmaTel site?

Or have you tried deleting the SigmaTel device (including removing driver files) from Device Manager, restarting your computer and letting Windows reinstall the device?
