I tried to set up a home network with 2 computers using the create home
network wizard. Im using xp pro, the other comp is xp home. It didnt work.
But also, since then I have been having system wide problems - programs wont
run, I get varied error messages, some things like event viewer won't even
work. media player lost all my music files and i had to import them again.
Sometimes I get messages saying there are errors with window system files.
I tried reverting to the last restore point and that didnt help. I ran a
virus check and that didnt pick up anything.
Any advice would be great!

Since I don't know what you did, I can't give you specific advice.
However, simply running the Network Setup Wizard to create a local area
network would not have caused those problems.

Since System Restore didn't work perhaps you will need to do a Repair
Install, but we really don't have enough information to give you
focused troubleshooting. I'd really want to know more about what is
going on with that computer before proceeding.

General troubleshooting:

1. Make sure the computer is really free of viruses and malware:

2. If the computer is clean, check your hardware:

Hi, thanks for the reply. Shotly after I posted this both computers crashed
completely, wouldnt start windows. My flatmate, who is running xp home, did
a complete reinstall. I want to avoid doing this in order to avoid losing
data. I did a repair install, which helped a bit, but am still having
problems.
When windows starts I get the following error messages:
'OSA.EXE - Bad image: The application or DLL
C:\Programfiles\commonfiles\microsoftshared\office10\mso.dll is not a valid
window image. Please check this against your installation diskette'

And
'RUNDLL: Error loading p2esocks_1014.dll Access is denied'

I think I can fix the first problem by reinstalling office? Office programs
dont load, I get a message saying they are not configured properly.
I have no idea what the second message means.
Other problems: Windows media player wont start, I get a message saying
'internal application error'. Explorer crashes regularly, especially when i
try to watch anything on BS player, which also crashes. My internet
connection doesnt work, its not even picked up in the internet connections
settings.
Everything else seems to be working fine.

Is the RUNDLL error a critical one? Is there a way to fix it without having
to do a complete reinstall? I do have all my programs and media on a
separate partition on my harddrive but would still have to reinstall
everything.

Thanks,
JB

Have found more problems. When I try to set up an internet connection I get
a message saying Remote Access Connection Manager wont work, error 711. I
have gone into the services control panel and tried to turn on the RACM
manually but then I get another message saying Error 5:Access denied.
