Computer has old McAfee anti virus programme which is out of date, I have used
`remove programmes` from the control panel but when I boot up I get a message
that part of McAfee cannot be found`press any key to continue` so obviously
traces are still around. How do I get rid of all traces of McAfee,I cannot find
an uninstall programme for it. Would it be ok to go to `find file` and then
delete all that appears with the McAfee name?
Help appreciated
thanks

Sound like the progeam is gone but the call to run it is still being
made. Go: Start | Run and type in "msconfig". On the tab "startup",
you will find a list of programs that run at boot. Uncheck anything
that points to the McAfee folders.

If you don't have any of their other products delete anything to do with
McAfee or Network associates out of the registry.

......and out of windows explorer. I have found sometimes the automatic
removal does not fully remove all the files. When given a choice of
automatic or custom removal, choose custom to make sure you get all the
files. You may get some prompts about shared files - leave those
alone -don't delete those

This is what I`ve done so far and the message still appears.
With McAfee I have done the following
Used control panel/uninstall
Used registry cleaner (easi cleaner)
Run `find file` and deleted any obvious mcafee entries.
Deleted all McAfee files/folders that I can find
Run msconfig and unchecked mcafee entries
But when I boot up I still get a message that file folder cannot be found ...
C:\PROGRAM"1\MCAFEE\MCAFEE"2\SAFE$"1\FBWIN95.VXD
Its then press any button to continue, its not causing any probs but a nuisance
having this prompt on every start up.Any further ideas how to get this out.
thanks

Start msconfig.exe and look in your system.ini or win.ini for
FBWIN95.VXD. Delete all references to that file and you should be all
set.

Look for the name McAfee in the registry and delete all mention.
If you are leery of doing things in the registry, use a free program:
http://www.pcmedixwebs.com/regclean.htm and d/l regcleaner 4.3.

Also use find to find all folders/files with the name Mcafee in it.
Delete the folder C:\PROGRAMM of course.
