And that "sometimes" is almost once on a day! It all
started about a week ago. That usually happens when I
start or shut down the computer... it just reboots and
then XP PRO says "the system has recovered from a serious
error". I have sent Microsoft the report and they said
the problem was caused by the device driver.

I say - WHAT driver? I didn't install any new driver in
the past few months.
My system was very stable, never had any crashes with it
(it's 8 months old!), until now.
What's more interesting - it usually happens few minutes
after starting, ending or when waking up from the sleep
mode. Does anybody know what the system do when making
those things - what resources are responsible/active in
that time?

I thought it was some spy reg. keys and progs that I had
recently... but I have cleaned the system totally. I
have no viruses.
Please help. Thanks.

Rt click on MyComputer>Select Prop>Advanced>Startup and
Recovery-Settings>Uncheck Automatically Restart.

When it starts, and when it re-awakens, it does a bit of initializing. Drivers must be loaded and ready.
You can check on what programs are started automatically on reboot by first checking the "Startup" folder, then if you're brave enough you can check the registry for HKEY local machine, software, Microsoft, Windows, Run

For drivers loaded as part of Windows, check your services
Also don't forget that there are other reasons to reboot, such as the processor or power supply getting too hot
Eight months is plendy of time to get a lot of dust bunnies built up, with act as insulation, trapping heat and interfering with air circulation
In your bios you can monitor these system health values and set at what level they will trigger a shutdown
Also you can tell it to reboot on all errors, all but they keyboard, etc, and in Windows System you can tell it what to do when it feels like crashing, such as reboot or not.

look at <Device Manager>
if you find some unknown devices.such as some one
with "!",Disable it or Uninstall it.
then look what will happen.Good luck.
