Charlie C.

My System Restore is not creating or saving restore points.

It will only save restore points for one day. Sometimes it
will create one automatically on a given day, sometimes I
have to enter one manually, but either way, any existing
restore points disappear as soon as the date changes.

1) Yes, Task Scheduler is running.

2) Yes, System Restore is activated.

3) Yes, I have allocated lots of room on the hard drive
(the slider is set to "maximum") for restore points and
data.

This is very frustrating. Is it hopelessly corrupted?
Short of doing a full restore of the entire hard drive (or
buying the deluxe version of "Go Back"), how do I get
System Restore to create restore points-- and save them
long enough to be useful? (Obviously, I can't restore the
system to an earlier point!)

Thanks...

If system restore is corrupted then disable it,reboot
turn it back on and create a new restore point. This
should delete the corrupted files. And when you renable
system restore it will create new non corrupted folders.

When you say you have the slider to maximum, that doesn't necessarily mean anything if you have a very small drive. How much free space do you have if you look at "My Computer"? You need 250 - 500 MB or more drive space allocated to System Restore in order to maintain multiple Restore Points, otherwise Windows will just delete Restore Points to maintain enough operating space. Also, if you have more than one drive or partition, if one has insufficient free space, the situation you are seeing would also occur. For that, just turn off System Restore for that drive/partition (unless it is the system drive), or free up enough space on it to allow multiple Restore Points to be created. If neither of these suggestions apply, you can try disabling System Restore, rebooting, then re-enabling SR to see if that will cure the problem.

Hello, Bill:

I have a 40 GB hard drive, less than 10 GB used. PLENTY of
space for System Restore (and almost anything else).

Only one partition... everything is on the "C" drive.

I'll try the disable/reboot/re-enable thing. Any other
suggestions?

Thanks
C.
