Help & Support GONE1

Someone PLEASE help me. I have Windows XP Home on my
computer and I cannot get the Help & Support Center to
open. When I click on it, it looks like it's going to
open & then nothing. I really don't want to have to
reinstall if their is any other way. If ANYONE has any
ideas I would be grateful. Thanks, Luci

Do you have a firewall running on your computer, such as
from Norton or McAfee? If so, try turning that off and
try launching it again.

Try Doug's link below, then click on XP-FIXES, and click on your topic.

Please!!! I tried the link that was given in the other
reply but the fix given there is for the registry & says
everything is fine & will not make changes.

Thanks!!

I'm having the same problem - would love to hear your solution. Thanks.

Luci and others,

do you actually have "Help & Support" installed? Or is the link from the Start Menu to "Help & Support" broken?

To find out, go to C:\Windows\pchealth\helpctr\binaries and look there for "helpctr.exe". If you can find it, double-click on it, and see if it loads. If it does, then the problem _is_ in the registry, because that's where the links from the various 'Help & Support' buttons on your Start Menu, etc., are set up.

If that is the case, then that's the same problem I have!! But there is a workaround. Right-click somewhere in the folder.
Choose New:Shortcut. This will open a little wizard. Type in the full path to helpctr.exe (i.e.,
C:\Windows\pchealth\helpctr\binaries\helpctr.exe") and then 'Next'. In the following box, type in "Help & Support" (don't click in the box, just start typing), then click on "Finish".
Now drag the shortcut icon, now called "Help & Support", all the way down to the bottom of the screen until your cursor is positioned over the menu bar next to the "Start" button. "Help & Support" is now available next to the Start button!!
