Mike

Everytime I try to shut down my PC (Win XP)...it just states: "windows is
shutting down" and stays like that forever without ever shutting down. The
only thing I can do is hit the power button and manually shut down. It does
this for both restart and shut down.

Can any one help me on this?

cheers,

Mike

In Control Panel, double-click Power Options.
On the APM tab, click Enable Advanced Power Management
Support

It should now power off automatically when shutdown
command is issued.

I just fixed this problem myself on my pc... my issue was
driver related. I had downloaded the latest nvidia
drivers from windows update... this caused the initial
problem.

I went to the nvidia website and downloaded the latest
drivers and this fixed the issue.

If the advanced power management isnt the problem, and you
have a nvidia chipset for your display adapter you should
download the updated drivers, Hopefully this will help..
otherwise good luck.

Please let me know if you find a solution to this. I have the same
problem as of yesterday. I'm running a Dell 8250 Dimension with an
NVidia graphics card, WinXP Pro. The only thing I've done to my
system, that I can remember, is the Windows updates, critical, and also
did a BIOS update to v. A04 from Dell about ten days ago. It's really
annoying!

Good luck and tks,

Fred
