Help setting up Excel on a "new" computer?

Ed

They gave me a new computer at work, so now I have to set up Excel like I
had it on my old machine. I have my .xlb file and a .xla add-in, but I
can't seem to make them work here. It's Win2000 and XL2000 on both
machines. Also, whenever I launched Excle before, my Personal (with all my
macros) would start up also - it doesn't now.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Ed

In the menu Tools > Options, General tab, there's a path for Startup folder.
Make it point to where you have your personal file and addins (or move your
files to the spesified folder).

HTH. Best wishes Harald

Harald: My General tab doesn't show ANY startup file path! I went to
UserName\App Data\MS\Excel, and have copies of both my .xlb and a .xla with
associated MDB file in both the Excel folder and in the Startup folder.
Excel will not start with the toolbars, and when it loads the add-in it says
it can't open the MDB file.

*sigh* I hate changing machines! Any hints?

I like to let excel tell me where these files should go.

On the new pc, load excel.
Make a minor change to the toolbar.
Record a new macro into personal.xls.

Close excel and answer yes to saving personal.xls

Now use windows start button|find (or search) to look for *.xlb and
personal.xls.

If you find lots (not probable on a new pc), look at the date created to
determine the correct location.

And delete (or rename) any others you find.

If you're using the same version of excel, just plop your *.xlb and personal.xls
right into the correct folders (overwriting those "find the right location"
versions).

You are using the same version of excel?

If no, I'd copy the personal.xls, but I think I might recreate the *.xlb file.
