Help: Selective On line Status

D

Dab

Hi:

We use MS Messenger at work to communicate in the office and across the
country. It works great and ties in with our exchange server to work even
better.

However, I have outside friends that use messenger as well. Generally at
work, I don't like to be bothered by outside messages but occasionally I'd
like to send one. The problem is that if I mark my status as off line, I
can't send messages to anyone without going back on line, which will trigger
an avalanche of messages from outside.

Is there a way I can selectively turn my status on and off on a per
individual basis? If not, it would be a desirable feature!

Thanks for any advice.

Greetings Dab,

Unfortunately there isn't a feature like this in Messenger today -- although this has been on
the suggestion list for quite some time.

What you could do since you're using an Exchange IM server, is to simply turn off the .NET
Messenger network before you actually sign in to Messenger. To do so, open Windows
Messenger, click the Tools menu, then Options, then Accounts tab, uncheck 'My contacts
include users of .NET Messenger Service' and click OK.
