Did latest XP Pro web update last week after 2 yrs running the PC w/o any
problems; always up-to-date with updates. After update applied, -reboot - PC
goes into dead-end restart-loop: WIN logo appears, (moving bar from left to
right), then restart. No chance to stop. Tried all kinds of tricks as
described in Knowledge Base from Recovery Console (305595, 307545, also RC
description). Safe Mode would NOT work anymore. No system restore point set.
Did complete new WIN install; system fine until SP2 (from web) applied
again. Was able to reproduce the error loop 3 times.
Finally did install another WIN XP pro installation for testing purpose:
Surprise, system stable after all SP's applied from Web. Since this license
is already under use I cannot use it.
Currently done another WIN XP Pro (ENG) installation with original licenses
(delete partition, install new..); have set "restore point" and created ASR
disk. Hesitating to apply SP2 for obvious reasons.
ANYONE got an idea? Very grateful for any help.

Please let me know if you found any solution to this. I'm suspecting I have
the same problem, i.e. the system became unstable after installing critical
updates. Suddenly the computer reboots for no apparent reason. PSU is 550w,
voltage acceptable on all sensors.

I tried reformat and reinstall, and now I have new problems (on a system
that ran continously for a year w/o problems). After doing clean install
(format, install, antivirus, windows update) and a shut dowm overnight, I can
not log on to my computer again - it's asking for password where no password
was set...
