help recover partition table

Hello all,

I've bought a 160gb samsung hdd. I partitioned it as follows:
primery
1. 6gb - ntfs
2. 1gb - fat32
extented
3. 32mb - ext2
4. 0.5gb - linuxswap
5. 10gb - reiserfs
6. 20gb - ntfs
7. 32gb - fat32
8. 25gb - ntfs
9. 53gb (rest) - ntfs

At first I didn't have time to install Windows OS on the new disk. But I moved a lot of data to the
new hdd. Today I decided to make fresh install of Windows XP. I downloaded SP2 and integrated it
with my Windows XP cd using AutoStreamer utility. I unhooked my old drive and left only new hdd. I
booted from just created Windows XP + SP2 instalation cd. Windows installer was doing something
without notifying me and then it rebooted. After reboot I was back in windows installer, but this
time it asked a standard question what to do next. I chose to install OS. Then there was the license
agreement and on the next screen installer asked where to install the OS. To my horror it showed my
new hdd as completely empty and unpartitioned. I rebooted computered, hooked up my old drive and
booted to my old Windows. Disk Manager confirmed that my new 160gb disk is empty. I tried to run a
Partition Magic but it failed saying as follows:
"EZ-Drive has been detected on drive 0. but EZ-Drive is corrupt. Run the EZ-Drive setup diskette to
correct the problem."
I don't have any EZ-Drive setup diskette but even if I did how I could be sure that running it would
actually recover partitions. Anyway I believe Winblows installer didn't actually erase the whole hdd
but probably did something bad to MBR. I've run Findpart.exe utility and 'FINDPART.EXE tables'
command shows following info about new hdd:

I've just learnt about this utility so I don't know much. However as far as I understand everything
seems to be alright. What should I do next? Should I perform editpart commands. Or maybe there is a
better utilty? I'd rather back up current entries before writing anything to disk so I could always
revert the operations. How to back it up?

Sorry about the length of this post but I wanted to provide as much information as possible. Thank

Good question in respect to the response I got from "Frank Steinmetzger" in
Re: Western Digital HDD: Problem with EZ-Bios.

Or track 0, but yeah, probably the MBR.

I've just learnt about this utility so I don't know much.

Read the partition notes on the website, scroll to "Findpart output".

However as far as I understand everything seems to be alright.

Except for that 55h (EZ-Bios) partition ID that appears to be
crucial for not recognizing ANY partitions by Microsoft.
The rest appears to be correct except for the NB in the table at
15300 that indicates some problem with the partition bootsector(s).

I emailed author of the Findpart tool directly and thanks to his fast and professional help
everything is recovered. And yes indeed 55h partition ID was the culprit.

Now what remains unsolved is how to install Windows XP without deleting all of the partitions. Or at
least how to install it without this EZ shit which is completely unnecessary since disk is already
running like charm with the old Windows install (on the old hdd). Perhaps I could use 32GB clip pin
setting...

Funny, I use GNU parted. But it is free and hence may not
fit you spamming worldview.
