Help re: FTP session was terminated

Art

When trying to upload to my web page (I use Windows XP),
I am getting the error message as follows:
"Web Publishing Wizard....The Web Publishing Wizard was
unable to publilsh your file(s) to the Web server for the
following reason: The FTP session was terminated.
Click on OK to exit."

Previously, I might have to try uploading twice to get
the upload to be successful. Now, as soon as the upload
starts the error message appears.

My ISP is Cox Communications using a cable modem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Art,

Some more info would probably help diagnoze this. It
sounds like the Wizard doesn't give you much. Can you
use a different FTP utility that displays the raw FTP
dialog? Something like WS-FTP or CuteFTP. Or, use FTP
from the command line if you're daring.

The quickness of the error indicates that the FTP session
is never established. This could happen if:
- couldn't find remote node
- Login Failed (i.e. the password was wrong)
- there's no FTP service on the remote node.
- The server cannot accept new incoming connections
- etc.

Getting this info about the specific error would help.

Most of the above might be cured by a call to the ISP.
Maybe they changed their naming convention, or moved the
FTP service for your account. Password errors are
trickier because of Microsoft obscurity. If your
connection works fine using a simpler FTP tool (like
those above) but not with your Microsoft wizard, chances
are there's a mangled password somewhere in the
publishing wizard. Hopefully this would by cleared by
creating a new "network place" from scratch.
