Help! Problem with extended Partition Under MS Windows XP

E

edguit@r

Hi group,

Recently, I've had a problem with my Primary HD. My computer freezed
under windows xp and I was forced to reboot the machine. When It came
alive again, I figured out that two logical partitions of one extended
partition were corrupted. I don't know what part of data on my disk is
bad or corrupted: MBR, Partitions Table, Boot Sector etc...

Windows XP can see the partitions but it not recognizes it's file
system structure (NTSC, FAT2 etc...). It says that the partition is not
formatted and asks if I want to format it now. I answer NO, of course.
But if I boot with a windows Me or Windows 98 boot disk, I can see all
the file structure. All the files are on old DOS format (8.3).

I know all my files are in there, so I'm sure I can recover them. I
just don't know how.

Here's what some application log or report tell me about the partitions
on the disk

-PCyl N ID -----Rel -----Num ---MB -Start CHS- --End CHS-- BS CHS

4654 1 0B 63 45335367 22136 4654* 1 1 7475*254 63 NB OK

In the Findpart output it can be seen that the boot sectors of the two
logical partitions are damaged. It is not known if the other file
systems structures are OK. If they are, these commands can copy data
to current directory and below:

findpart chsdir 1 1913 1 1 backupbootsector copy

findpart chsdir 1 4654 1 1 backupbootsector copy

You will need access to a partition with room for the files to do
that.

Thanks for yuor reply Svend. Now I can see the problem on boot sector
of logical partitions. I'll try to fix them using DIY Darecovery
DiskPatch.

Thanks one more time.

ok
i know your problem
i suggest you use partition table doctor to repair boot sector
It provides very useful functions: Backup partition table, Restore
partition table, Rebuild partition table, Fixboot.
