I need help. I just upgraded from Windows 2000 to XP.
The first time I just inserted the XP CD, and chose the
option to do a "New Install" rather than to "Upgrade." I
ended up having 2 operating systems on my non-partitioned
harddrive. So, I booted up with Win 2000 and tried
the "Upgrade" -option on the XP CD, and now it shows that
I have two XP operating systems.

Can anyone tell me how to either remove one of the
systems? I tried going into the Control Panel to use
Add/Remove Programs, but XP doesn't show up as an
installed program there. I don't mind reformatting my
harddrive, but I don't know how to install XP if I do
that. Please give me advice on how to proceed. Thanks.

Reinstalling that would be the simplest but takes time.

You could first take three minutes to frig around with folder deletion and
boot.ini editing instead if you want:

i.e

1. Just delete the WINDOWS or WINDOWS.001 folder of the OS you don't want,
taking care not to delete any of the other's folder nor any common folders
and files in the system root [ usually C:\ ] ... and ... also ...

2. edit out the reference of the OS you don't want from the double hidden
boot.ini file found in the root of the system drive - use folder options to
unhide it.

You can also edit boot.ini here:

right-click MyComputer > select Properties > Advanced tab > the Start up and
Recovery section's Settings button > Edit button

Voila.
