Empowering Technology is an Acer product.........So I assume she has an Acer
computer....and Acer's only come with a "recovery partition" which allows
her to reinstall the whole system and destroys whatever is on the HD in the
process.....it will not allow her to retore a specific set of XP files...not
to run the "repair" option normally found on a retail XP CD.
So she has a choice...download and install the file....see if it fixes the
problem.
Do the Acer Restore thing which will wipe the computer and it will be as she
1st bought it....if she picks this option she needs to safe her files.
or option #3.............do option #1 and if it does not fix............then
do option #2.
A lot of programs use the framework service...................empowering
technolgy being one of them.

when she originally got it will it restore it to how she opened it out of the
packaging as shes only had it a week.will still have the prgrammes that came
with it and do i just put the acer cd in.its the L100 acer.what files does
she need to save as she hasnt done anything on it yet!!!apart from mess it
up!!shes having probs with the internet so suggest she just restore it to the
orginal.what is the acer restore thing, sorry to appear thick but not to good
with comps!!thanks for replying again and will leave you alone if you just

My Acer did not even have the restore CD...just a restore partition...so I
am sort of guessing here.
If you start your system with the Acer CD in Place and watch for the message
"press any key to boot from CD" you should go to the Install routine.
OR...the manual that came with the system might tell you to push an
Fsomething key to start the recovery process.
I have never been in that situation,I usually have a retail Version of XP
handy or in the case of my Acer(Laptop) an Image of the HD on a DVD that I
can access thru Acronis True Image to restore .
Check the Acer website for specific instructions as they relate to your
model.
