changed the computer administrator to another account, in which now has
disappeared and now my owner account is a limited account and it will not let
me do anything it tells me to keep asking my computer administrator when i
dont even know where that went! all i want is to not log in when i turn the
computer on, like i used to. i have windows xp and a hp computer but i dont
know much about computers so if someone can help me as soon as possible with

If your machine is running XP Home then restart and repeatedly tap the
F8 key as the machine starts up, this will get you into Safe Mode. Be
patient eventually you will get to the log in screen, login as
Administrator, DO NOT enter a password just hit enter (The built in
Administrator password is blank by default in XP Home), make the
required changes to the accounts from control panel/Users.

Anotherway is Go to http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ . There
you will find
zip files that will let you create boot floppy disks or bootable CDs
that will enable you to reset any system password on an NT class
operating system (XP is an NT class operating system).

i tried doing that but nothing happened i cant even switch users when i tried
to login as Administrator and press enter it said there was an account
restriction. also when i tried to restart it i was pressing the F8 key but it
didnt go to safe mode and didnt do anything. i also found out that i am using
XP Home, but will it let me reboot the whole thing again or reinstall Windows
or will that just stuff everything up and lose all my documents? thank you by
the way

How do you boot to Safe Mode?

By pressing/tabbing F8 (or F5 on some computers/keyboards) during re-boot.

Alternatively,
click onto Start==>Run, type "msconfig" (without quotation marks), click OK.
Then click onto BOOT.INI tab and 'check' /SAFEBOOT then OK and click
Restart.
To go back to Normal Mode, you must access the System Configuration utility
again and click the General tab then click/check the radio button 'Normal
Startup'
- load all device drivers and services'.

Alternatively,
provide
an application called "BootSafe" that simplifies the process of booting to
safe mode. You may access BootSafe from the Start Menu under the
SUPERAntiSpyware folder.

Your computer may be infected with malware. I am no expert in identifying
viruses and suggest post your original request/problem to either
microsoft.public.security.homeusers and/or microsoft.public.security.virus .
There you will be provided with expert help.
Good luck :)

I had never been asked for a password until recent update. Since then I get
asked whenever I try to switch users (then applications dont work) I havent
managed to sort this.I also started getting asked after pc returned from
stand by but I have sorted this. I tried uninstalling updates but it's still
happening

From all of the banter in this thread, you may have to save your
documents etc and start from scratch.

This is what should have been done first and none of the other BS...
__control userpasswords2__
[ ] Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer....
