Help please! Problems with installing XP/home

I am having problems with XP when it gets to the 'loading personal settings' bit it skips to 'saving personal settings' as if it's trying to shut down and then it flicks straight back to 'load personal settings' and so on and so on. It does this every time, even in safe mode :/

Please can you help me as I need to sort this out because my dissertation is due in soon and I need my computer!!!

If you know your way around the inside of a computer you could simply remove
unnecessary hardware and then try the install. To install XP you only need,
in addition to the motherboard, cpu, RAM, hard drive your video card (unless
that's integrated), keyboard and mouse. So some folks will remove the
network card, modem, sound card and disconnect all other unneeded devices.
Once XP is installed do not activate it as you have time to do that later.
Instead shutdown, add back one card or device at a time and restart letting
Plug n Play pick up the item or install the drivers for it when prompted.
The last things to connect are your peripherals like USB printer/scanner and
external drives etc.
