Hi - I'm running xp pro with all the latest updates. I have a tough
problem. ftp is broken - not just the built in ftp, but any ftp
application on my pc. My ip stack is working fine otherwise. I can
connect to any host and login, pwd etc. but as soon as I do an "ls",
"get" or "put" ftp fails (just hangs and then disconnects with a 425
Failed to establish connection). I have connected a windows 2000
machine to the same network with the same ip address and cable and
connected it to prove it's not the server. I have also done the same
thing with a linux machine which is fine also. I get the problem with
public ftp servers as well - again the windows 2000 client is fine. I
even tried it from a public internet access point to an internet ftp
server. I have disabled the ICF on my machine - no luck. I
uninstalled kerio pf completely thinking it might be this but again no
luck. I reset the tcp/ip stack on my machine using "netsh int ip
reset resetlog.txt" and rebooted - again no luck. I can only think a
windows update has broken this part of the ip subsystem somehow. I
found a few other people on groups have had the same problem in the
past on xp with no resolution (not shown in the groups anyway). I
really don't want to reinstall xp as it's a work pc and I'm away from
the office at the moment. Current status - no firewall - http ok,
other ip ok, ftp failure.

Please help

Sorry guys, really stuck, I know it's a tough one, can anyone at least
provide a suggestion? I'm going mad!

Tony,
Did you figure out a fix to this issue? I am having the
same problem...

Are you runnind Zone Alarm or another firewall? If so try turning if off
while FTP'ing.
Firewall will block ftp connection in some cases.

Hello Ryan - didn't find a resolution, in the end a reinstall
(complete, not repair) of the os "fixed" it. But I'll let you know
what I tried (not in order, just the things I tried):

- Disabled ICF
- Disabled Kerio PF
- Uninstalled Kerio
- Reinstalled network drivers
- Removed all protocols
- Reset tcp/ip using "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt"
- Used an application which does passive ftp (filezilla). This worked
partially, but obviously I couldn't use active ftp. *Clue* - either
microsoft ICF or Kerio left some port blocking behind after being
turned off/uninstalled which was blocking active transfers OR a hotfix
broke it.

Hope this kind of helps - When I did the reinstall of the o/s I did
system restore points at every major point, to try and diagnose, but
the problem did not come back. I found a few other people on usenet
with the same problem, but no-one seems to know how to fix it.
