Help Please - Brief Screen/Mouse Freeze every several seconds

I have this irritating problem, every several seconds, there is a beep
together with a brief screen and mouse freeze(lasts one or two seconds
only). It only started happening 2 days ago, I don't remember installing any
new software or hardware. Only thing changed to the system was the switch
from attbi to comcast.
Anybody knows where should I check for possible reasons causing this
problem? I am using WinXp.

I had some similar problems. This is a long shot but did you by any chance
install any Microsoft patches just prior this problem appearing?

If you did, then go into Add or Remove programs and scroll down to the
Windows XP Hotfixes. See if you have a 811493 installed. If it is then I
would uninstall and see if the problem is resolved.
