Can someone please help me. I was working on a data base in excel and in the
address boxes had abbreviations such as Dr for Drive and St for Street and
Gr for Grove. I thought I would use replace to put in the full words. After
I had done it I saved the file, but then found that it had put Drive, and
Street etc in every instance following Dr or St even if it was in the middle
of a word. I now have a huge data base with lots of errors and I have to fix
it quickly. Can someone please tell me if there is a way I can fix it. There
are 18,000 entries and I have already changed about 6000 rowsl but it is
taking forever....HELP

If you can't use the "undo" button to undo the problem you could close the
file without saving it, but you will also lose any other unsaved information.
It is a good idea to back up your file each time you use it--expecially a
file that size.

IN case you did not have safety net backup, of course yo can reverse the
process you used-- repalce all instances of Drive or street with teh former
Dr or St to get back to the beginning.

then to change the abbrieviations to replace only those instances of the
abbreviations, find (spacebar)Dr(spacebar).
