HELP! Nvidia drivers installed on a Matrox

R

RIck

Ok, I'm stupid and Microsoft is stupid. I was going through Windows
Update and there was a new driver to be installed called "NVIDIA"
something or other. I downloaded it and installed it. Now but screen
gets weird characters on it before it eventually freezes. My video
card is a Matrox Millenium G450 so I don't know why Windows Update
felt I needed it. I don't know why I didn't notice and installed it
anyway.

Anyway, I've downloaded the latest Matrox drivers and I'm still having
problems. I even reinstalled Windows XP and it hasn't helped-- I
didn't completely wip the drive, I just put the XP disk in and
"upgraded" I suppose.

I can't get anything done with these crashes. I'm assuming that the
NVIDIA driver is still a factor in this somewhere.

PS - This is a dual monitor card. I am currently using the single
setup which seems to last a little longer.

HELP!!!!

Start up in safe mode and delete the video card from the hardware device
list, then reboot and Windows should reinstall your card using basic
drivers.

Rick,

While I strongly doubt that you installed Nvidia video drivers via
Microsoft's site, you may have applied a patch that corrects a problem
for Windows XP with the Nvidia chipset. You will need to remove this
fix/patch. In the Windows Control Panel, select 'Add or Remove
Programs' and see if you have a Windows 'HotFix' or other Windows
patch that you can un-install. If you find it, un-install it followed
by removal of the Matrox drivers. Try using Matrox's uninstaller
utility:

http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/drivers/files/ftp_util.cfm

Reboot your system and then download the Matrox Windows certified
drivers for your G450 card, re-install these drivers and then reboot
the system. If you still experience system crashes, you may have no
choice but to format your drive and re-install Windows XP and all your
applications. If you do so, make sure to backup all your personal
files (downloaded files, drivers, email, browser favorites, etc.) and
download all the drivers (for example, that you don't already have on
CD) onto a second partition or slave drive before formating.

Ender.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I removed the Matrox software and
removed the drivers for the video card. It had me reboot and brought
me back to the basic screen resolution which it suggested I change. I
had some screwy graphics, but then I changed both monitors to 24 bit
and I haven't had any trouble since. The left monitor was 8 or 16 bit
while the right was 32 bit. The left had the screwy graphics. It's
been okay the whole day now.

When I search the windows registry, NVIDIA pops up all over. It's
possible that was the video card I had before I put the Matrox in.

Thanks for your help. If I have more problems I'll do as you
suggested.

Thanks. I haven't had any problems since Friday when I justed the
color bit settings after removing the matrox drivers. If I have
trouble, I'll definitely reference your suggestion for help.

Thanks,

Rick
