i have 5 monitors that i got for free. they are all in perfec
condition. the only problem is that i can't use them all. i have
" Gforce fx 5500 OC AGP 256mb ddr" video card and i als
have a cheap "PCI ati rage pro 8mb" my goal is to use a
many of my monitors on a single computer as possiable. i have a
extra computer that i also use multiple monitors on. the motherboar
has a hardwired video that i haven't actually been able to figure ou
how to disable it (i uninstalled the driver but that odviously didn'
help and i tried to disable it in the bios but im not sure if i
actually worked) i got the nvidea AGP card to work amazingly i lov
it(this computer doesn't like agp cards unless its invidia, it like
to restart continously or give me viscious messages) and i then trie
to install the pci card and it shows up in device manager as not abl
to start. so i found a more recent driver and that fixed the proble
evertying was working fine excpet i couldn't turn on the video.
went to display settings and it doesn't show up there. nothing wa
coming out of the monitors i tried. did i commit some mortal sin o
something . i fix computers on the side and this is kinda driving m
crazy. im glad i finally got a video card to atleast work. would
pci version of the nvidea work better. is using the AGP disabling th
pci graphics. the onboard video is disabled when the AGP card is in
when i take the agp card out the onboard video comes back up.
cannot use both at the same time. my goal is to get some cheap pc
cards so i can have as many monitors as possible. the computer is a
HP pavillon a420n with 2.16GHZ 3000+ amd athlon win xp home 768 m
ram. i fix home computers as a side job for freinds family and thei
friends. iv been at it for a while and i cant even figure out my ow
computer. id like some help

I've never tried it, so I can't help you. We're not ignoring you.
That said, if running an AGP card and a PCI cards doesn't work. I
probably won't

The only thing I'm aware of that can run more then two monitors at th
same time is SLI video. And, that's quite expensive

I wouldn't use the same brand in both the AGP, and the PCI. If yo
do, make sure you don't let it install to the same folders

I'd recommend trying a newer PCI card instead of the old rage pro.
Most newer cards have drivers that support multi-monitor much better.
For example, to add an additional monitor to an old Dell Optiplex
that came with the integrated Intel video support, I put in a PCI
Geforce 4 MX-440 and it worked just great. Low end PCI Geforce
cards are dirt cheap.

I've never done it myself but my current mb has AGP, PCI-Ex16, PCI and
PCI-Xx1. The mb box says it can run six monitors using AGP, PCI,
PCI-Ex16, but I see now that Matrox has PCI-Xx1 card so in theory I
should be able to run 8 video cards so long as each video card has
dual outputs. I'm not interested in doing that but it can be done.
