||| Help needed with DEFRAG.bat file and Task Scheduler ||||

This is a repost, since my first one went unanswered.

I am the sole user of a machine running XP Pro. I DO NOT have to log
on or use a password to use the machine, the only time I need one is
in Safe Mode to log on as Admin.

I have created a small .bat file to defrag my C: and D: drives when I
am not at the machine.

If I try to schedule the task after I have started the machine, Task
Scheduler tells me that an incorrect password or user name has been
entered. Even though I am using the Admin password.

If I I log on as Administrator, in SAFE MODE, start the Task
Scheduler, and enter my password, then XP tells me it the Task
Scheduler isn't running and the program won't run.

What gives? It seems like there is NO way to run my file! The file
runs fine from a shortcut.

Thanks in advance

JJ

Sorry no one helped out before, we're all looking for
answers too :).

Ok, when you boot to safe mode, it loads minimal drivers
and services, so scheduler won't start. Try this it might
resolve your problem and still keep you without a logon pw.
Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->RIGHT CLICK on
scheduled tasks and then choose run-as. Run it as the
administrator account, set the application to run as
administrator and see if that solves your problem.

Hopefully I'm understanding you right, as you said you
don't logon or use a password but you are using the
password when you run the task scheduler??

Hi JoJoGunn,

In microsoft.public.windowsxp.general you remarked...

The following will allow you to boot to the desktop without being asked for
a password and allow you to use task scheduler.

1. Create a password for your regular user;

2. Goto Start>Run and enter "control userpasswords2" (without the
quotes). Also look here...
http://www.kellys-korner-p.com/regs_edits/AddUserPasswords2ToCP.reg

3.In resulting dialog, highlight regular user and uncheck "Users must enter
a username and password to use this computer".

Hello t@k and James Martin,

I am sorry to say that neither one of your suggestions has helped. I
still get the same message about the wrong password being entered
whether or not I have used the "Run As" or tried to go without a
password at all. The funny thing is that it bitches when I don't enter
a pw and when I use the Admin pw it tells me it's the wrong one!

Whew I am stumped, but I appreciate the input.
