Help needed with boot

Starting yesterday, when I turn power on, my machine will not start up
unless I power off and on once or twice - then I get an error during
the boot-up that said I had to press F1 to continue to boot up. Then
the BIOS process showed 'CMOS check sum error- default loaded'.

What can be wrong do you think?

CMOS check sum error normally means that the cmos battery needs to be replaced.
