Help! Need router recommendation

Hi. im using dlink di-604. but it keeps losing internet
connection. unplugging and replugging the power cord restores
connection. i have 19 pc's and im also using a dlink 24 port switch
and a cable modem (512kbps).

i suspect the problem is that the router cant handle this number of
pc's. im planning to add more pc's in the future. about 40 pc's all in
all.

Can anyone recommend a router that can handle this number of pc's?
thanks in advance.

Rather than a home router you need to be looking at a commercial router.
Consumer-grade devices aren't what you need.

Thank you very much sir for your reply. Im a newbie with regards to
routers. I have searched the newgroups and found terms like SOHO,
Branch office and Enterprise routers. As i understand it, the
commercial grade routers you are reffering to are the branch office and
enterprise routers. Ive heard of cisco routers and im concerned that it
might be too much for my needs plus the fact that its very expensive
and seem to be a quite complex.

I would appreciate it very much if you can spoonfeed me and point me to
some brands and models that are just right for my needs. Im also
concerned about security and reliability. And also a two-WAN router
would be good since im planning to add a second ISP for redundancy.

Thank you.

If you need to protect the lan, the Firewall Firebox Edge WatchGuard
hardware-based (small factor 8.7inch x 5 inch) is good for you. Work
making NAT, http console to admin, VPN available for public-IP
to-firewall schema. 50 pcs capable. Filter with flexible admin of
Content by categories, and no-stop power on by months. The unique Cons I
know is: not MAC filtering for the lan-inside users. This feature is
usefull to stop some users go to internet. Price US$800

Thank you sir, I looked at the firebox website and the x50 looks
attractive. I looked for the load balancing feature. But its not in the
specs. Althought its says its got failover feature. Does failover
imply load balancing?

Do you mean limit some users the bandwidth?
I don't know about this feature in Firebox but you can read the product
description for the model you want. The unique firewall I know is ISA
server (software-based) and SecurePoint hardware.

Its a feature that will allow me to connect two ISP to the router via 2
WAN ports which the X50 has. And then allow both ISP to be used at the
same time. The router will automatically select which ISP to be used
according to load. The result will be that some computers will be
connected via ISP A while some will be connected via ISP B.

So ISP B can be utilized together with ISP A and not just serve as
backup incase ISP A fails.
