HELP!!! Need a legal non-OEM Windows XP version SP1 or SP1a CD with key (OT?)

I do not know if this is off topic. But, since it has to do with tech issues, I am hoping
that I will not get flamed. A friend has a 5 year old Compaq system. The hardware is OK,
but either viruses/worms/Spyware/Adware have killed it. I have tried everything possible
to get it back up and running, that is everything that can be done WITHOUT a Windows XP
CD. She lost her Windows XP CD. System Restore is trashed, as well as Last Good
Configuration, Safe Mode desktop will not load, nor will the Administrator profile, etc..
In my opinion, the hard drive has to be formatted, and then a clean install of Windows XP.
I know that the system will not run SP2, and that is OK. She only uses it for email, web
surfing, and word processing. I can supply the security software, firewall, antivirus,
and other safe guard utilities. But, I need a Windows XP SP1 or SP1a CD and key code (not
OEM). Does anyone know where I can purchase a legal copy of a non-OEM SP1 or SP1a CD and
key code for a low price? I am really concerned about this person, who has just had to
declare bankruptcy (so purchasing a new system is not an option), and I am doing all work
gratis. Any help in steering me towards an inexpensive non-OEM legal copy of SP1 or SP1a
with a key code would be appreciated.

Why not use the manufacturer supplied CD's and restore the computer to
whatever operating system came with the computer. Yeah, it's not XP - but
under the circumstances, she can't be too choosy, can she?

That is not an option. I guess I did not fully explain the situation. The retail Windows
XP, Compaq System Recovery, and program CDs were all lost during a move.

Then try Ebay, but be aware of what you are buying.

Tough break, but I think she's out of luck. You might at least find a
Windows 2000 CD for less. Wouldn't hurt to ask HP (they own Compaq
now) but don't get your hopes up. Why would it have to be non-OEM? A
generic OEM should work fine.
