Hi,

I've been trying for the last two days to network my two computers. All I
have successfully achieved is that I can ping the desktop from the notebook.
The notebook cannot access the internet or any files on my desktop. The
desktop cant see the notebook at all.

I've tried activating sharing on my notebook - it crashes every time I try.
I went through 2 hours of tech support trying to fix it. No luck.

could someone please give me a step by step pointer as to how to get them to
talk? I have both a lan cable and a usb wireless adaptor (can connect peer 2
peer type thing).

Thanks!

If you are trying to connect both computers to eachother directly, you need
a crossover lan cable. An 'ordinary' ;an cable won't work.

If you have either computer able to ping the other, then you have physical and
logical connectivity. That's part of the struggle.

Now you need to look for a misconfigured or overlooked personal firewall, or
other security component. There are several other possibilities too, and any
might be the cause of your problem. Read this article with an open mind.

Or we could look at "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each computer,
and diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow
instructions precisely (download browstat!):
