help me i am freezing!!!!

ok guys, i dont know anything about computers so help me out. ok i took computer to see about viruses but there was none. if i check mail, sometimes it will go for a few minutes and sometimes it will say page cannot be displayed. same thing on games. i play for a minute or so then i like freeze and that message page comes up. i have to dissconnect and restart everything but to only freeze and get the message again. is there any modem driver updates that dont cost alot or anything i can do? they said it might be modem or a noisy phone line. i have deleted temporary files and cookies but nothing helps. can anyone help a gal out please? i cant really even use the net but for like 2 minutes before i freeze! help! thanks

if you have a crappy lucent modem then try agere.com for
new non microsoft approved driver ver 8.30 .
try 56k.com for modem fixes for line noise etc.
and for what is probably spyware in your system try
ad-aware lavasoftusa.com
spybot safer-networking.org
and update both before scan and use spybots immunize feature.
line noise will just kill your connection and not just
freeze for a time.
and windows update has the lucent driver ver 8.28

If you ahve problems sustaining a connection or connecting
outright your modem may not be robust enough for your
phone lines. Try a more expensive modem or a hardware
based modem which will respond better to ppor lines and
correct line noise better.
You may notice the computer becomes unresponsive while the
modem is in the process of disconnecting, this is normal.
