Just built an xp computer with a Prescott P4 3.2GHz Retail CPU and the fan
is very loud and on all the time at about 2554 rpm... its loud enough that
I've had to increase my tv volume by 50% just to hear over the fan. I have
tried using a program called speedfan or fanspeed? but that didnt help. Is
there something I cando to dramatically reduce the noisefrom it? The two
other fans in the case are very quiet as is the exhaust blower. Any help or
advice would be much appreciated.

you can get fans that are called runquiet or similar name to that from
most pc shops.also make sure the fan is securely in place as that
might be causing the problem.
http://www.quietpc.com/uk/casefans.php this site has all the fans you
could need to quieten the pc down.
hope it helps

I'm assuming you mean the fan on the CPU heatsink. If so, 2500rpm is a bit
high unless it's under heavy load. I have a Prescott P4 3.4 and the fan only
runs at 2500 when the temp gets around 70C ( at full load). Even then it's
very quiet. If it's not a defective fan, I'd check the installation. Also,
check that side panels and everything else are secure - a little vibration
goes a LONG way!
