Word did an update last night and in the process closed all the open programs
on its own. I was working on a document that I had not yet saved. The
AutoRecover feature is turned on and updates every 10 minutes. How do I find
this file?

Start Word.

Unfortunately, if you let Automatic Updates run completely automatically and
unattended AND leave unsaved documents open, this will be the result.
Windows is quite cavalier about shutting down running programs in order to
restart. When asked about saving, it quite casually answers no (just what
you would want it to do, of course). Because the program was shut down
"normally" instead of crashing, no AutoRecovery backup file is saved. You
should never leave unsaved documents open overnight; if you do, don't let AU
run unattended.
