Help! Lsass problem

Numpty alert.

Rebooted PC
Failed to load
error Lsass.exe samlib.dll cannot be found
cannot boot in safe mode or do anything
used XP disk supplied with machine to try to re-install XP
some files could not be copied so didn't work
Used disk to install XP on remaining partition
Installed symantec sasser worm check - no worm present
Can now view files on C partition, but those which originally needed
password or registration won't work.
Any suggestions as to what I can do please?

(XP disk supplied with machine does not have repair facility)

To gain access to the files or folders on the "C partition" try "take
ownership". You can find instructions in "Help and Support" in the start
menu. Unfortunately you may need to format and install to the original
location if there is no repair available, sound like you have a OEM disk for
your system.
