Help!! lost folders

Help!!
I somehow lost all my folders and files in My Documents ( not deleted just
gone). They included photos and word documents. I also had things show up in
task bar on lower right that had been disabled and lost all my bookmarks in
internet explorer. I defragment and virus scanned in the past two days and
had no problems. I have no idea what happened as this was after the kids were
using computer. I had some special pictures I hadn't printed or backed up. I
did searches for the folders and the contents and they are gone. Is there ANY
way to find them or get them back?

Please Help!

Hi

Are the folders in the Recycle Bin? Search for the pictures by extension in
Windows Explorer to see if they have been moved somewhere else by accident.

Hi,

Sounds like the system autorecovered from registry corruption - this would
explain the reactivated items in the taskbar, but not the missing data in My
Documents. To try and retrieve your deleted files, you would want to use an
undelete utility. These are commonly available for free, and work on the
premise that the space the file formerly occupied has not been overwritten
with new data yet. Once that has occured, recovery requires more extensive
(and expensive) work with dedicated forensic tools by someone who knows what
they are doing.

This one here works quite well for basic file recovery:

Wayne,

Is there a reason how you know they weren't deleted? It's a long shot but
maybe 'My Documents' located at 'C:\Documents and Settings\your name' was
somehow 'Hidden'? At Control Panel > Folder Options > View, select 'Show
Hidden Files & Folders', click OK. If it shows now, right-click 'My
Documents', uncheck 'Hide', click OK.
