HELP! IE 6 deleted, cannot reinstall

In the processes of de-spywaring my machine. I inadvertently must have
deleted IE6. There is no exe for internet explorer anymore.

But, when I download and attempt to install IE6 service pack1, it tells me
there is a newer version and it can't install.

I'm stuck! Is there anything I can do short of reintalling windows? What a
pain.

Is IE6 gone or just the icon ?
Look here in Windows Explorer
c:
program files
internet explorer
check if the icon is there, if it is just make a shortcut and put it back on
your desktop.

Hope it as simple as that :)

How have you tested? The usual case is that the user has only disabled
shortcuts and doesn't know how to find iexplore.exe

Try Run... (e.g. press Win-R and enter:)
iexplore.exe

Even if you have removed it from its normal location
copies of iexplore.exe could be in other places too;
so if you aren't finding it at all it's possible that's due to
your File Options or your Search Companion settings.

Run... control folders and make sure that you have checked (on the View tab)
Show hidden files and folders
And in Search Companion (e.g. press Win-F) under More advanced options
check: Search system folders
check: Search hidden files and folders
check: Search subfolders
uncheck: Case sensitive

If you really can't find iexplore.exe anywhere see if you can recover it
with an SFC /scannow

Please be aware that browser functionality is now integrated in XPsp2.
We call it IE6sp2 for convenience but it can not be uninstalled or installed
in the conventional way that IE6sp1 could. Similarly if you had XPsp1
you actually had an integrated level of browser functionality which may be called IE6sp1
but really supersedes the normal IE6sp1. Hence the only way that you would be
able to install IE6sp1 would be to uninstall both XPsp2 and XPsp1.
That would back you out to XP base with its integrated IE6 level of browser
functionality which you could then install IE6sp1 in. However, before doing
that you already would have in effect reinstalled IE6sp1 by first reverting to XPsp1.
Note also though that by uninstalling XPsp2 you would also have lost all its
maintenance.

I'm stuck! Is there anything I can do short of reintalling windows? What a
pain.

Good luck

There is no iexplore.exe

The problem was that Dell apparently sticks some MySearch spyware in the
browser...in the process of trying to get rid of it...Internet Explorer got
wasted.

I can't believe I can't simply download and reinstall the program..this
seems excessively complicated for such a simple thing.

Should have mentioned this in my earlier post, if its a Dell, just call tech
support and they will help you through it.

You are only replying (vaguely) to my question
and appear to have ignored my suggestion.

The SFC /scannow suggestion would be simpler than that.
Did you try it?

BTW getting help requires cooperation. If you just want to rant
please don't bother replying to my posts.

On bootup hit F11 (as you would F8 for Bios) and you will access the hidden partition on the Dell. Install IE from there
