We have long-haul truckers across the US. They get per diem and have the use
of credit cards for cash and lodging. They get advances. I believe that
everything is settled through the payroll (though I am not sure).

My job is to set up a database of employees that will enable me to track
what they get from us and how much they've accounted for when they return
from a trip.

I have the "Teach Yourself Access in 24 Hours" text and frankly I have my
doubts. Can anyone direct me to good newbie resources where I can begin from
the ground up?

Thank you!

Mary,

The first thing that needs done is to create a set of tables to hold your
data. Read up on designing database tables. Come back with your questions
after you have read about tables.

My first question would be how many employees do you need to track?
10, 100, 1000. It might be that Access is more than you really need.

Access has a fairly steep learning curve. How did you decide that Access
was the tool of choice? And there are other factors to consider...

How urgently is a "finished" application needed?
How many folks will need to share the data?
Are all the (potential) users on the same Local Area Network?
Do all the users already have Access installed (or will you need to install
the Access runtime)?
Do you want the users to be able to open up their Access and "muck about"
with it, or will you want to lock it down so they can only do what you want
them too? (Making it EASY to use is HARD!)

There are more considerations...

Good luck!
