Buy a low cost flatbed scanner and get to work.
There are automatic feeders, if you want to save time and spend money.
Very nearly any of todays flatbed scanners will scan at least 300 dpi, which
is about all the information contained in a print. Sometimes you may need
600 dpi for special circumstances.
A 300 dpi scan of a 4 x 6 print will make a 1200 x 1800 pixel digital image.
A 600 dpi scan of a 4 x 6 print will make a 2400 x 3600 pixel digital image.
A 2400 x 3600 pixel digital image will make a 8 X 12 inch print at 300 dpi.
I had to do a few hundred. I bought a Canon Lide 50 scanner for about 80
bucks online. It came with Adobe Photoshop Elements, which I use a lot, and
it allowed me to scan multiple photos at once with good results. Most of my
photos were smaller than 4x6, so I was able to load six at a time on the
scanner. It automatically straightens them and turns the six photos into
six separate files. It hooks up to USB and is even USB powered so you don't
need to plug in a power block for it. This scanner does photos as well as
our 3000 dollar Epson at work. I highly recommend it.
