Help find IBM Ram

C

Charles S

My friend has a P2-200Mhz, IBM 365 (I believe).
It takes 168 pin Ram.
It has two modules in it now and says it has 32 megs ram.
It has four slots for Ram.
It now appears one of the installed modules is not being recognized,
and the one that is, is 32 megs.
We have tried 5 different modules with no success.
These were all listed as to run in a IBM P2. They don't.
Anyone that can direct or assist us would greatly be appreciated.
Either as to exactly what Ram it takes, or where to buy it.
IBM does not answer email.
in advance... thanks to one and all.

I wonder what the machine is.

The slowest PII is a 233. A 200 MHz machine could be a Pentium Pro, which
can't use SDRAM, if memory serves. It would need EDO memory. 168 pin EDO
DIMMs exist, but they may be relatively expensive.

If you can find the exact model of the PC, try the memory selection tools at
www.crucial.com or www.kingston.com.

Alternately, download a tool like SiSoft Sandra
(http://www.sisoftware.net/). The standard version is free. It may tell you
what sort of RAM is needed.

Good luck.

They did fit OK? I wonder what slot it uses.
I have some Compaq EDO DIMMS here that *nearly* fit a std DIMM slot, a
matter of one of the notches being a millimetre further over. Saves
mixing stuff up and frying things, I suppose, but perhaps all EDO DIMMS
are like that. I don't know ...

Is this something along the lines of what you're looking for?

OK it's a 128MB module but this site appears to have an excellent range,
and well catalogued with part numbers and that. (So that one can take
the info and buy it somewhere else cheaper, perhaps.)

Good luck.

Take the machine type (four numbers, and three alpha-numerics) to
http://www.crucial.com and all will be clear.
