Hi everone,
I would like to know if someone has experience this problem or have
knowledge how to fix it?
This is the full story. I have 2 HD in the system.
HD1: installed only OS and programs.
HD2: store only data, photos and video files.
I reinstalled the OS on HD1, which is Windows XP home edition, a week ago.
After the reinstallation, it asked if I want to "reindex" HD2. and it said
it is optional, and it is recommended. So I clicked "yes" to reindex.
It, then, reboot to a light-blue window screen on startup, showing me the
process and start reindexing.
After it is done and reboot. I found that a lot of files got corrupted or
damaged. or "mis-index" So, I ran a "disk check" and select auto fix error
from Windows...
it does found some errors and try to fix it.. at first, it works for some
files
and it still doesn't work for most of them.
Later, I installed Easy Recovery software by Ontrack, and ran a few testing
on the drive.
From the Full Diagnostic test, it found no physical error.
However, when I ran a Partition test. It would not even pass the first test.
It shows structural error, but gave me NO specific error.
(Note, all these time, I can still read and write on this HD2, and create
new files no problem.)
Then, I used the Zip file repair feature.
It basically tries to salvage what is left or readable on a zip file, it
can't really repair. From the log here, I see that a single ZIP file got
"mixed" with other ZIP file stuff. For example, when salvaging file
Trip_Photo_01.zip, the log shows that it has mixed with Family_photo_02's
files, and other ZIP file series.
And when it salvage Family_Photo_03, it shows that it "mixed" with other
photo alarm files's parts.
Other non compress, just JPG or PNG files, it shows "ok", but in fact, they
are not "ok". Those JPG files cannot be viewed or preview.
The result is, it is the same as before, I only get bit and pieces of each
ZIP files and a lot of damaged JPG.
Have you heard anything like this before?
it seems that Windows messed up my partition table and re-index to the wrong
file.
I have total of 100 GB files damged and non-replacable.
I would appreciated a lot of someone can help me to solve this problem.
