Has Access security been set?

Yes it is secure, and each user has their own permissions. The back-end file
is the one that's getting locked, but all properties and settings are correct.

When no one is in the file, is there still a YOURFILENAME.LDB file
there? If so try deleting it.

No. the ldb file is automatically deleted as it should be. I have also
verified that no one opened it intentionally as read only. I read that this
can force all other users to open it read only whether they choose to or not.

Does the backend have the same name as the mdw? Have you ensure that *all*
users have the necessary permissions on the folder (not just the
administrator).

Yes on permissions - there are no issues with permissions. It worked fine
last week. As for naming the frontend is called filename.mde and the backend
is called filename_be.mdb.

And what is the mdw named? You said it was secured. I assume the mdw is in
the same folder as the backend. They can't have the same name.

is called denver.mdw
