Help: Convert MP2 video to what?

D

Dave

I have several home videos on CD-R, and they are in MP2 video format.
However, I cannot play them because I do not have an MP2 encoder. I
temporarily downloaded Elecard's MP2 player to view them.

Now, the MP2's average 100-150MB in size. I would like to convert my MP2's
following these criteria, if possible:
1) A more easily accessible video format such as WMV or AVI
2) Smaller filesize
3) Minimal loss in quality
This is for the purpose of getting more of them onto a CD-R.

I think I'd like to convert the MP2's to either WMV or AVI format - or even
RealPlayer format. But I'm not sure which one(s) is/are the best idea. Can
anyone give me some pointers? Any information is appreciated. Thanks!

Awesome! Thanks for the help.

One more question. What is the difference between the VCD, SVCD, and DVD
extensions? Do they differ in filesize?

I would like to be able to play them in my DVD player one day, but what do I
choose?

VCD/SVCD will use the old MPEG1 format, DVD will use MPEG2 format
which is higher quality and higher compression. Region coding uses
compression on top of MPEG2 compression.
