HELP: connection refusal

hi,

I can connect to the internet just fine, and I have access to most webpages.
However, when I try to connect to google.com, a window pops up, saying "The
connection was refused when attempting to contact google.com" I really have
no idea why this may happen, and i have run both ad-aware and spybot already.
any help would be appreciated
