This problem has been posted before but I have not seen any explanation/help
and can't find anything in TechNet etc...

When browing a Word document on a web server and clicking "Back" the "Enter
network password" dialog is displayed.

This is happening on servers with various version of Win NT 4 Server, Win 2K
Advanced Server and various versions of IIS.

The webs the Word documents are stored in are FrontPage 2000 or 2002
Extended.

The folders the Word documents are stored in have the normal permissions
applied.

Any idea???

Thanks,
SpLiT.

If using Word 2000, there is a bug in the Word program that causes this. It
was cured by installing Office 2000 SP1.

Ron,

Thanks, all the documents are Office 97 tho and we do not experience this
problem on other web servers within our organisation, just a few, hence I
believe it is more of an issue with the server/IIS rather than the clients
that are browsing the documents.

It's not the documents - it's the program used to open them, in other words
the version of Word currently installed. However, since you don't get the
problem with every server you use, you may be right about client server
interaction.
