Help! Can't Open old PP files in PP 2003

When trying to open some older presentations from PP 2002, PP 2003 reports can't open file...
a portion of the file is missing!

From a previous posting, the following:

I've returned the corrected file to you by email, Rafael. I've also
notified Microsoft of the error message, the cause, and the solution. When
I opened the file in PowerPoint 2002 I immediately found that there was a
font used in your template that was not available on my system. I did this
by going to Format > Replace Fonts. In that dialog I found a question mark
next to Times. I selected Times Roman to replace it, saved the file under a
different name, and then opened it successfully in PowerPoint 2003.

The default font for this template is set to Times 24 pt. If Times is a
font that is needed for this template, you'll need to ensure that the font
is installed on all systems that will be using the font. Alternatively you
can easily change the default font to Arial, which seems to be what the
designer probably intended.

To change the default font, open the file, go to View > Master > Slide
Master. Select the text tool and click somewhere in the unused area of the
template. Go to Format > Font and select Arial, 24 pt and check the box
next to "Default for new objects". Go to File > Save as. Select Design
templat(*.pot) as the file type and save under a new name. Now you have a
template that can be distributed throughout your company and will work on
all systems and in all versions of PowerPoint.

Any ideas when a patch ma be available to fix this?

If you still have PPT 2002 available, try resaving the file with a new
name. I'd probably make sure to turn off Allow Fast Saves in
Tools/Options before doing this.

Unfortunately, not a clue.

The reply you've quoted came from me. I've since learned from Microsoft
that Rafael's problem really wasn't related to the font, but due
to how PowerPoint 2000 saves some objects. In his case, the presentation
was created in PowerPoint 2000 and opening and saving it in PowerPoint 2002
corrected it. Microsoft has only confirmed that the problem exists in
PowerPoint 2000. This particular problem does not exist in PowerPoint 2002.
So far there is no word on when a fix will be available.

But you say that your presentation was created in PowerPoint 2002, not 2000,
so I'm not sure that it is the same issue. Are you still able to open the
file in PowerPoint 2002? If so, I would try re-saving it in PowerPoint 2002
and trying to open in PowerPoint 2003 again. If that doesn't work please
post back here and we'll explore some other options.
