Help!! Can no longer run MSCONFIG

I have no idea what is going on...running XP. All of a suddon I go to
"start", run, msconfig, nothing happens...My computer is soooooooo
slooooooow I need to get those programs from running.

Any help?

If you do not regularly run scans with up to date antivirus and malware
programs, do so until neither program reports an infestation after a reboot.
If you don't have this free program, try it: Anti-Malware 1.33, which can
be downloaded from here:

http://www.download.com/Malwarebyte...l-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button&cdlPid=10997763

Do a search on msconfig.exe and when found, double click it to see if it
will start that way.

You must reboot your computer once in safe mode and see if you could open
msconfig there.
It it works, try doing a clean boot, can use the link
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353
You can even initiate system scan being with safe mode with networking as
well.

Added info: Could be caused by several factors:

Msconfig won't run: Trojan.Ahero.

This issue has been traced to an improperly formatted BOOT.INI file. This
is a hidden file, usually in the root directory of the C: drive.

This file can be opened in Notepad. A typical BOOT.INI file looks like
this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect
C:\="Previous Operating System on C:"

One specific issue that was noted was multiple "operating systems" sections.
If you have any questions, post the contents of your BOOT.INI file. If
you're not sure what you're doing, don't mess with it, as you could render
the machine non-bootable.
