When I click on help and support from the start menu, it
say it can't find helpctr.exe. Is there a way to
reinstall that.

Hi,

Certainly, you expand a new copy. Start/run msconfig, click on "expand file"
(general tab)

File to expand: helpctr.exe
From: X:\I386
To: C:\Windows\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries

Where X is whatever letter is assigned your CD drive (you need your WinXP CD
for this), change it accordingly. If your system was preinstalled, you may
find this instead on the hard drive under C:\Windows\I386. If so, change the
"from" line accordingly. This assumes a default installation to C:\Windows.
If your installation is in a different folder, such as C:\Winnt, change the
"To" path accordingly. Reboot when finished.

bplane,

Are you able to launch the file from RUN box (with full path)?
C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Binaries\helpctr.exe

If that works, and the Start Menu link does not, follow these steps:

Open Registry Editor and navigate to:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\HELPCTR.EXE]
The (default) value in the right should read the following:
@="C:\\WINDOWS\\PCHealth\\HelpCtr\\Binaries\\HelpCtr.exe"

Clicking Start Menu Help and Support looks for the App Paths Helpctr.exe's (default) value and launches the program mentioned there. If the App Paths value is blank, the problem is seen.

Well! What was the result of altering the App Paths key?
