Hello,

Okay, first I'll admit my sins - I'm a Mac user and haven't touched
Windows more than briefly since the days of Windows 98. But because I'm
known to be "good with computers", this problem has landed in my lap.

There's a Windows laptop that was bought in Russia. The owner bought it
at a bargain price and now it's "stopped"

Is the hardware broken or is the software pirated (common in
Russia) and was that detected during an attempt to up-date.

The fix may require the purchase off and installation of a
legal OS.

Hi zoara. Is there a question in your post? Could you tell us a bit more by
what you mean when you say "now it's stopped"? What happens when you turn
the laptop on?
