I recently re-installed Windows Xp Home Edition on my computer, and have been
unable to reactivate it. The computer accepted my product key (on the back of
the little green booklet that came with the cd) during the reinstall process,
but now as soon as I log on I'm presented with the activation window (no 30
days, no chance to access anything). I can't use the Internet to activate it,
and whenever I use the computerized toll-free number it says the ~50-digit
code I read off from the activation window isn't on file. I've had the
computer for a few years, so could the code be invalid now? Also, should I
call the OEM? Won't someone help meeeeeee?!

Thanks

The activation process has an option to perform this manually and to dial up
Microsoft and speak to a rep.

Choose to call Microsoft and you will be provided the number for your local
area. Do so and get the friendly staff to assist you.

It's all too easy.

Call Microsoft and speak to a physical person - explain your situation to
them (I often find the easiest way is just to say that you've had need to
reinstall windows because of a virus) - and then they will give you an
activation code.
